Emily grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania, and earned her B.S. in Neuroscience from Dickinson College in 2019. She is currently a PhD student in the Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology (MIC) program at the University of Virginia. Prior to joining the Lukens lab, Emily worked as a laboratory technician in Philadelphia (go birds🦅) at Drexel University, researching autonomic dysfunction following spinal cord injury. She then worked at the University of Pennsylvania researching the immunological roles of red blood cells and the gut microbiome in sepsis. Her experiences led to an interest in how immune signaling influences neurological function in health and disease. In the Lukens lab, her research centers on understanding how meningeal B cells and meningeal lymphatic function contribute to brain health and disease. Outside of the lab, Emily enjoys spending time with her cat, baking sweet & savory treats, tending to her houseplants, and enjoying a fat marg with friends.
