Zhimin Zhang, MD

Zhimin grew up in Taiyuan, China, and earned her MD and MS from Shanxi Medical University. She began her career at the same university, where she taught courses in epidemiology and conducted research on viral transmission for fifteen years. After moving to the University of Virginia, she spent nearly two decades working as a senior laboratory specialist in the Department of Radiology under Dr. Shi and in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine under Dr. Mehrad and Dr. Shim. Her primary research expertise lies in pulmonary health and immunology, with an emphasis on managing animal colonies, animal models, tissue processing, and molecular assays. She has contributed to numerous published studies. Zhimin is excited to join the Lukens Lab and support research into neuroimmune mechanisms. Outside the lab, she enjoys cooking, going to the gym, and spending time with her family.
