Clint Upchurch, PhD

Clint grew up in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014 with a B.S. in Chemistry (Biochemistry Track) and from the University of Virginia in 2023 with his Ph.D. in Pharmacology. His thesis focused on understanding how oxidized phospholipids, products of oxidative stress, contribute to development and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. After finishing his Ph.D. he decided to stay at UVA and joined the Lukens lab to investigate how ferroptosis exacerbates injury after stroke and Alzheimer’s Disease. Outside of the lab, Clint enjoys playing soccer and softball, cycling, and running.
